A new residential, commercial and leisure district is taking shape on the approximately 12,500 m² Cranachhöfe site in a central location in Essen. Arbeiterwohlfahrt Essen (AWO) will occupy approximately 2,570 m² of the 3,800 m² of planned office space in October. Brockhoff OFFICE brokered the lease. With an investment of €54 million, Cranachhöfe, between the Holsterhausen district and the city centre, is Allbau GmbH’s second-largest new-build project. Completion is planned for mid-2019, giving Holsterhausen a modern and distinctive new landmark. On the site of the former Holsterhausen vocational college on Cranachstraße, 29 attractive, accessible apartments (56–123 qm) will be built for families, couples, singles and seniors. On Rubensstraße, 42 publicly subsidized 1–3-room apartments (41–76 qm) will add to the housing options. A 5-group daycare centre for 99 children will also be built in this part of the district and operated by AWO Essen. Retail and food-service units are planned on the ground floor at the new Holsterhauser Platz, at the corner of Rubensstraße and Holsterhauser Straße. An EDEKA supermarket with approximately 1,800 qm of sales space, which opened at the end of March 2019, as well as further offices and shops—including a dm store with 600 qm of sales space—will make the square a lively meeting place.
