Hemsö announces another successful acquisition of an educational property. The Swedish specialist in social infrastructure has acquired a new university building from the Building and Real Estate Management NRW for its German portfolio. The seller is HLG Real Estate GmbH & Co. KG, based in Münster. Brockhoff GmbH, based in Essen, brokered the transaction. The lettable area is approximately 8,540 m². The State of North Rhine-Westphalia has leased around 79% of it for RWTH Aachen University, making it the largest tenant. The building is currently nearing completion and is scheduled to be handed over to the tenant in September 2026.

The new RWTH Aachen university building is in the city centre, right next to the main railway station. It is part of a larger development that also includes student accommodation with 300 apartments, a Holiday Inn – the niu hotel with 160 rooms, and a fitness centre operated by World of Fitness Aachen. The building also has an underground car park, which will be managed after completion by Aachener Parkraum Gesellschaft, a company owned by the City of Aachen.

“Aachen is one of Germany’s most attractive university cities. Home to the renowned RWTH Aachen, it has one of the country’s leading Universities of Excellence. This additional location complements the existing sites and strengthens Hemsö’s presence in an innovative region with a highly skilled workforce,” says Jens Nagel, Managing Director of Hemsö GmbH. “With the State of North Rhine-Westphalia as tenant and the city-operated car park, the property is an attractive addition to our growing German portfolio.”
