Astenhöhe GmbH retains its existing stake unchanged

(Essen, 10.12.2025). Hotel Bredeney, the Ruhr region’s largest conference hotel, has a new ownership structure. Austrian Soravia Group has sold its stake to the BUTEO Group .

The change of ownership clears the way for comprehensive revitalisation plans. “The sale of the stake in Hotel Bredeney is an important step in the strategic realignment that will strengthen the hotel and the city of Essen over the long term,” says Eckhard Brockhoff, whose stake in the hotel through Astenhöhe GmbH remains unchanged.

Brockhoff GmbH is also well positioned for the future, according to Eckhard Brockhoff. In 2021, he sold 41% of the company to ADOMO Beteiligungsgesellschaft, which was then majority-owned by Soravia Group. ADOMO is now majority-owned through Invest AG by Raiffeisen Landesbank Oberösterreich. Eckhard Brockhoff currently holds the remaining 59% of Brockhoff GmbH himself.

About Hotel Bredeney:

The hotel was designed by architect Walter Brune and built in 1972 on a site of more than 18,000 square metres. It has 293 rooms, 580 beds and 12 conference rooms for events with up to 1,000 people. For decades, it has been a fixture for business and conference guests in the Rhine-Ruhr metropolitan region.

The hotel holds a four-star rating from DEHOGA. It is one of only a few hotels in the Ruhr region with a 450-square-metre wellness area, including a swimming pool, Finnish and steam saunas, and a fitness area. Its location is appealing: Essen Exhibition Centre is within walking distance, and both the exhibition centre and Düsseldorf International Airport can be reached in less than 30 minutes.

“Hotel Bredeney is known well beyond the city limits. Its proximity to two major exhibition centres, attractive location in southern Essen and good transport links make it an appealing investment,” says Eckhard Brockhoff, who has shaped the commercial property market for more than three decades. “Several former German chancellors, including Angela Merkel, have stayed here.”
