(Mülheim, 16 November 2021). On Wednesday, 3 November 2021, Hochschule Ruhr West signed a lease for 6,156 m² at the approximately 136,000 m² site of the former Tengelmann headquarters in Mülheim an der Ruhr. Essen-based brokerage Brockhoff, appointed by owner SORAVIA as sole marketing agent for PARKSTADT MÜLHEIM, secured the young university of applied sciences as a tenant for the 79,000 m² office complex on Wissolstraße.
Dr. Jörn Hohenhaus, Chancellor of Hochschule Ruhr West, is delighted with the new premises: “True to our claim, ‘Never stop growing’, Hochschule Ruhr West is continuing to grow. High-quality, purpose-designed space is essential to our ambitious teaching and research goals and to providing our students with an excellent education. Expanding our campus into Parkstadt also strengthens the university’s successful integration into the city.”
Marc Buchholz, Mayor of Mülheim an der Ruhr, is convinced that Hochschule Ruhr West’s arrival will give the city’s structural transformation further momentum: “At a time of skills shortages and rapidly advancing digitalization, Hochschule Ruhr West offers young people exactly the practical degree they need to prepare for the job market. Close cooperation with businesses makes it desirable for more forward-looking companies to locate in Parkstadt Mülheim, where they can work directly with the university.”
Julia Winteroth, project manager for marketing PARKSTADT MÜLHEIM at Brockhoff, sees excellent prospects: “As property consultants, our focus is on finding tenants who are a perfect fit for the tenant mix and leasing concept. We are already in discussions with forward-looking companies that could potentially cooperate with Hochschule Ruhr West.”
Redevelopment of the site is proving highly successful.
Construction is proceeding at full speed, allowing the premises to be adapted to the needs of modern companies. Further leases covering several thousand square metres are being finalized and will be announced shortly. “There is no other property in the Ruhr region where so much space has been leased recently as at the former Tengelmann site,” adds project manager Winteroth.
At the end of October, property consultant Brockhoff announced that Theodor Fliedner Stiftung would open a new operating site on the campus with approximately 2,500 m² and a nursing school with approximately 1,700 m².
Traditional club TSV Viktoria 1898 Mülheim an der Ruhr e.V. will open its fitness and health centre at Parkstadt Mülheim on 1 January 2022, occupying approximately 2,000 m².
Wolfgang Grob, former head of security at Tengelmann, has successfully built his own security company, WSS GmbH, and leased approximately 1,100 m² in the former Tengelmann headquarters.
Standardkessel Baumgarte, a nearly 100-year-old subsidiary founded in 1925, relocated from Duisburg to Mülheim and leased approximately 9,000 m² of office and warehouse space in the well-preserved building on the park-like grounds. The premises were fitted out to the tenant’s requirements.
