(Essen, 23 August 2022.) University Hospital Essen has acquired the office property at Theodor-Althoff-Straße 1 in the Bredeney district from a joint venture between investment manager Peakside Capital Advisors AG and global private markets investment manager Partners Group. The building comprises around 21,600 m² of office space and 450 underground parking spaces. The acquisition expands the hospital’s existing premises, and it plans to move in during 2023.

Thorsten Kaatze, Commercial Director and Deputy Chair of the Executive Board of University Medicine Essen, says: “The acquired property opens up major strategic opportunities for us. Our original campus will gain room to expand clinical services as space is freed up by a potential relocation of administrative functions. We will also be able to bring our medical vocational school activities together at one site for the first time and expand them, while providing space in the newly acquired property for further research growth.”

Simon Lutz, Partner at Peakside, adds: “We acquired the building as part of a portfolio purchase and initially considered modernising it. We soon began discussions with University Medicine Essen, which preferred to customise the property itself. We are very pleased to provide the university hospital with room to grow.”

Brockhoff INVEST advised the buyer. Marienburg Real Estate represented the seller in the transaction. The purchase price was not disclosed.
