University Hospital Essen is expanding its capacity and has acquired a building complex on Theodor-Althoff-Straße in the Bredeney district. The 21,600-square-metre property is to be used for administrative functions, easing pressure on the hospital’s existing main site in Holsterhausen, which has faced space constraints for years.

The new building is expected to be ready for occupancy from 2023 and can accommodate around 450 employees. Nearby public transport links also make it easier for commuters to reach. Moving the administration will allow the hospital to create additional space for clinical services at its Holsterhausen site.

The hospital sees the move as a strategic expansion that will meet growing demand and further strengthen its position as the city’s largest medical institution.
